Taking fund investors online: subscriptions, redemptions and ETF trading

What investors expect from a fund portal today, and what has to happen behind it.

Fund investors now compare their experience with their bank’s mobile app. If subscribing to a fund still means forms, signatures and a branch visit, many will not bother.

What investors expect

  • To discover and compare funds online.
  • To subscribe and redeem from any device.
  • To buy and sell exchange-traded funds in the same place.
  • To see holdings, statements, distributions and documents whenever they want.
  • To reach support quickly when they need it.

OptimumIB, the OTS investor portal, is built around these expectations, with customer support that connects directly to the call centre.

Straight through, not re-keyed

A portal is only as good as what happens after the investor clicks. In an OTS environment, subscription and redemption requests flow straight through to the Funds Back Office, which applies cut-off controls, updates the unit-holder registry and runs NAV, fee and distribution workflows. Nobody retypes the request.

Starting with one fund family

Fund managers do not have to move every fund at once. A practical first engagement is a branded portal for one fund family or client segment, live against the existing back office, and then extended once it has proved itself.
